A little after an hour after we started actually hiking it began to drizzle and would do so on and off all afternoon. John DeHo's shelter is shown here. We have gotten a fire going and people are relaxing as it drizzles rain, freezing rain, and some snow. Some people have left well in advance of me and some will end up not leaving for quite some time. The snow is still falling and is 2-3 inches deep on the ground right now. The climb up to Walnut Mountain shelter kept me warm against the stiff wind and blowing snow. To get here we hiked through windy cold conditions full of blowing snow. The footing was pretty good, but with the high winds (especially over Bluff Mountain) it was quite chilly indeed. We had already made the decision that calling this the end-point would be prudent given the troubles some were having with the conditions. We've only just really begun the hike and are fairly near Carver Gap still.
